Product champions are people who are in love with your invention and with either decision-making power themselves or the ability to convince those in authority that an invention should be commercialized. In corporations, they are the people who benefit from the introduction of new products and often have a title similar to "Marketing Director." Because inventions by their nature are risky to develop, it is vitally important to find someone in power who is a true believer in your invention and who is willing to bet the farm (preferably someone else's farm) on its success. Product champions are sometimes younger, ambitious employees or older company founders with a long-term perspective, or are immigrants (or the children of immigrants) to the country in which they are now living and working who are striving to fulfill the dream of financial success. In the invention game, nothing happens without product champions.
