Hypothetical Example No. 2. Richard invents a novel bacterium with the sole utility of poisoning public water supplies. He is denied a patent on the composition of matter by the USPTO.
Hypothetical Example No. 3. Buckminster invents a credible cure for AIDS. He is granted a U.S. patent.
