An inventor must specifically notify others that they have permission to reproduce (for limited purposes) the portion of an invention disclosure or patent application that is the subject of a copyright or mask work protection. A U.S. patent containing such material will not issue if it does not contain such a notice because reproduction of patent documents is a necessary function of any patent system.
